Default Website Security

Just a quick query re the safety of websites. I always thought that a website was only safe to use if it had the padlock sign and https in the address bar. Last night while ordering a takeaway I realised the restaurant's website didn't have it and just now I've noticed this site doesn't either.....does this mean the site is not safe from hackers or am I being over-cautious? If I am, what's the point of the padlock icon?

It doesn't mean the site is unsafe if the padlock is not there....i'd be more concerned if it had HTTP instead of HTTPS.....the S means the site is secure

I think you've misunderstood me Dinny. It doesn't have the https OR the padlock.......just the i, which apparently means it's not a secure connection......
