The one captioned burst pipe Summerhill is wrong ...for some reason it comes up as that location a lot
Its at the corner of Gardiner Street upper and Dorset Street Lower
Father Browne was attached to Gardiner street church at the time only a few yards away from the photo
You can see the Red Star Tea shop in the background and a Barbers pole at its doorway
There was a hairdressers above the shop
I,ve included a street directory showing Dorset street fron NCR to Eccles place
There was a bike shop in 91 on this directory
It also shows Dorset Avenue at 96
This is in the huge overengineered arch almost 3 storeys high in the photo back left
Yes John, you’re Right. Here is an up to date picture of the same location. Note the railings around the “area “

Thats a great photo of the Bank of Ireland
I never seen that one before
Its amazing whats hidden behind a lot of buildings in Dublin
Those chimneys for instance
The one on the right belonged to the Bank
The one on the left belonged to the Dublin Corporation electricity generating station in Fleet Street near Anglesea street corner
It closed when the ESB itself took over as electricty was generated from the Pigeon House power station
The building itself stayed in the ESB fold

John I was going to ask a question about the chimneys, because I never remember seeing them. Also the picture to the right of the John's Lane church, the wide cobbled area, where is that, looking at it, it looks like John's Lane spire is in the background and a small item on the left that looks a bit like the top of the Rotunda hospital.

Hello Vico
As Cosmo says the photo is of Smithfield
Its looking out towards the Liffey with Saint John's church showing in the background in Thomas street
The cupola is of Saint Pauls church on Arran Quay
It would remind you of the Rotunda

Thanks for that John, looking back I missed the word Smithfield. Also I could not remember the word cupola.
