  • Ballyfermots 1st church

Ballyfermot church circa 1948, (known locally as the stew house).
It was used as a church while awaiting the construction of the new church at the roundabout on kylemore road.

It was later used as a dinner house (penny dinners for the poor) run by the Vincent DePaul and the nuns from seven oaks convent. Every day was stew and maybe sago if you could afford dessert.
It then became a youth club, but they couldn't get rid of the smell of stew, it was engrained in the interior of the building.
In the early sixties, the youth club ran a record hop, and the locals called it club a dindin

London had its club a gogo, we had our club a dindin.
