Boaster lol! The Ladys hairdresser was beside Dempsey's and it was run by the daughter Anne Dempsey a pretty girl. Her Sister Mary married a Garda and Mrs Dempsey he self married a man a lot younger then her,

Fair play to her she was no oil painting but she did have dosh, I wish I had dosh lol" I spend a lot of time in that hairdressers and I went through many colours and styles. I went in Dark and I came out blonde, I went in blonde I came out red.

My Dad often did not recognise me when I came home

Ski was a very good boxer,he never won any titles that I know of.He done a lot of fighting in what was called the gentle mans clubs in England. If the fight was good these people would trow money into the ring, any time Ski was fighting the ring would be covered with money .Does anyone know where he is now.

            • Gussie Farrell and Ski were the two I remember. I think Ski was a painter as I seem to remember him painting the Galvanised shool that I was in at the time.

              • I can't say I remember any of them although I did know a Farrell off Cashel Road But then It is a common name, I wonder what name Gussie is short for, I know a few gussies

My Late dad went to the Crumlin Boxing Club with my two brothers and a few other men from Downpatrick Road.

One night my two brothers were picked to box each other and my Dad knew that it was not on so they left and they never went back. I bet he missed his night out with the boys

                • My grandkids are off school for another week next week so it seems every holiday is now becoming a few days. In Crumlin in the old days we had six weeks summer holidays and about a week at Easter and the same after Christmas, Christmas was almost over after St Stephen's day.

I remember going to school at Nine and even if it was freezing you had to kneel on the cold tiled floor for the Rosary before you went into your class and dare you lie back on your hunkers lol! you would soon get a clatter.

I can't help wishing schooldays were a bit like today with trips abroad etc. I always give my Grandkids a few euro when they go on these trips and I think back to the day when the only place we were brought was confession once a month on Fridays

                      • Bitter sweet years Brian But friends were so important, Today the police are digging up a garden in Crumlin looking for the remains of two babies.

Middle aged woman says she was raped aged twelve and a baby resulted which was killed and buried in the garden. Later aged fourteen the same thing happened again another baby another burial.

I guess some people had it an awful lot worse then us Brian

                        • Sorry guys, but when Joan showed the pic of the convent it brought back bad memories that I still live with, enough about me,babies buried in the garden more than the mothers were involved, the mothers were only kids themselves.

                          • Seems now it happened in Walkinstown The residents of the house have had to leave for three weeks to enable Gardai to search the Garden..

Woman says itwas her Father and other men from the time she was five, The mind boggles that any mammy could allow this to happen to her daughter.

Sad, Nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors. A few clatters now seems not a great deal

                            • A Crumlin Wedding on Devinish Road, I loved Old Crumlin weddings they were always in the house, Tables were placed in both bedrooms running right through the landing so it was like just one big table and God Help the ones serving.

All those stairs and trying to feed the multitude, When one gang was done another took their place was the first lot socialised downstairs and out the back garden

Pots of mashed cooked in a few houses and veggies and the Meat, It was a great undertaking and it was always very successfully carried out
