            Genuinely upsetting news...just heard an hour ago.

            I was speaking with my daughter who lives in the UK on the phone a few months ago about Petty playing London and not visiting Ireland in 2017. I was hopping mad.... we agreed she'd come home if he played Dublin later this year. I saw him in The Point during his last visit here in the 1990's and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen... anywhere.

            In 1975/76 I was guitarist with a young band in Finglas.... first number we tried out in a garage on McKee Avenue was American Girl.

            One of the all time greats.. gone before his time. RIP .

                Aw , I'm sort of shocked to hear that . He lived 5 minutes away . You would see him walking to the shops most days on his own , up to about 5 years ago . They still had the sentry hut outside his house with an armed Guard , but he would walk to the shops on his own .

                  97 was a good age to go. His wife only passed last year.
