On Wednesday of Easter Week 1916. The gunboat Helga a grey fisheries patrol boat sailed up the river Liffey and tied up on the south quays opposite the Custom House. Her duty was to shell Liberty Hall, thinking it was a rebel stronghold.
In 1923 the Helga was purchased by the Irish Free State and renamed Muirchú (Irish: Hound of the Sea) The Helga was sunk off the Wexford coast by the state in 1947. Local divers retrieved the wheel from the wreck and can now be seen in Kehoes Pub in Kilmore Quay.Attached Files'Never look down on a person unless you're helping them up'.

The oul Carlton. My first 'grown up' picture house where for the first time I was allowed to go to the pictures after dark. I even remember the name of the movie was "Timeslip".
Can't remember what it was about but it frightened the bejiziz outta me.Attached Files'Never look down on a person unless you're helping them up'.

Not a very good picture of the Capitol. I loved that picture house... especially if I were sitting up in the gods.Attached FilesLast edited by Rashers; 15-03-2011, 04:23 PM.'Never look down on a person unless you're helping them up'.
