  • Pets Corner

Lets give this one a go. We can post photos of our pets, ask advice, discuss, anything to do with your pet(s).

As a freshwater tropical fishkeeper, breeder and FBAS judge (for shows etc) for over 40 years I can offer any advice needed on freshwater tropicals, their needs, illnesses, breeding and so on so don't be shy about asking. And remember there's no such thing as a silly question -- only a silly answer.

Anyone want to offer their expertise, share a photo or a story, offer advice or tell us about your local vet? Here's where to do it.

    Participate and enjoy.

And to start the ball rolling here's two of my pets. This is Paddy the tortoise enjoying the sunshine in the back garden.

Paddy is an import and has his own passport (honest.. it's the law).

Not exactly cuddly... but a pet just the same.

And this is Flipper the turtle sunbathing at the edge of our pond. He and his friend (we have two) are acclimatised to the temperature of the water... in fact there's turtles living in the Santry River where it flows through Northwood in the old Santry forest.

Flipper is about the size of a small dinner plate.

Heres our pet dudley..actually he thinks we're HIS pets....hes got a lota emotional baggage, hes got separation anxiety which makes him bark constantly.....hes absolute terrified of other dogs...which makes him bark constantly...hes embarrassed too cos hes got a lisp...(according to the doggie shrink) so he probably doesnt feel really good about himself and that makes him bark a lot..

How in the name of jesus do we shut the little fecker up?? any ideas?

some days i love and adore him...and some days i could cheerfully run over the little git...depending on the barking lol

When you go out , leave the radio on , and put an old item of clothing with your scent on for him to snuggle up too.

The tortoise and turtles are very easy to look after. Lots of wide leaf plants and the tortoise is happy, and you can buy turtle food but mine seem to live on the micro-organisms in the pond.

Theres loads of auomatic fish feeders. The last one I used is very similar to THIS one.

I thought you already had expirence with dogs that would kinda give you some hints !
"shut the little fecker up?? any ideas?" ..... put him in a plastic bag, tie the top, put holes in the bag and toss him in the nearest canal ..NB. make sure there are no bloody softies hanging around nearby that might jump into the canal to rescue him.
"i could cheerfully run over the little git." ..... I thought you were a past master of this skill ? ...... don't you have previous ? and weren't you put on trial here and found guilty ? ... slipped yer memory perhaps ?

Dear Doctor Jim, how can I stop my rabbit from humping my slippers, I have to keep throwing my slippers away, the little fecker wont leave my feet alone.
I even tried walking into the back garden in my work boots (inc steel toe caps) and the little randy fecker dives on them and gives them a good seeing to.................(I have photos, but they are too explisite for delicate eyes)
This can be very embarrassing when we have people around.
                          yours, a worried rabbit owner.
